Brisé Fan

East-West exchange, facilitated through developing trade routes, is evident across the decorative arts of the eighteenth-century, especially in readily producible and transportable objects like fans. This Brise fan, constructed of luxury materials, is akin to ceramics of the period that were produced in China for export to Europe, and produced in Europe for domestic consumption, in both cases replicating popular Chinese-style designs such as featuring European figures in a traditional Chinese narrative.
