The Fitzwilliam is 200 today

Today (04 February 2016) marks 200 years to the day of the death of our founder Richard 7th Viscount Fitzwilliam of Merrion. The first chapter of the new bicentenary book The Fitzwilliam Museum: a History explores the life of the founder and reveals previously unknown details of his life. His beloved library may have contributed to his death, and his passion for music led him to the love of his life: a French dancer with whom he had two children, ‘Fitz’ and ‘Billy’
