The Fitzwilliam Museum offers an extensive school programme across all Key Stages and a variety of curriculum areas.
We also make a difference to pupils across the region through projects with strategic partner schools. For many of these projects, we work in partnership with our fellow University of Cambridge museums to introduce pupils to a wide range of museum collections.
Art in Action
This programme is aimed at primary schools from disadvantaged areas of Cambridgeshire, many of whom have not used the museum before.
This Transition project works with pupils in their last term of primary school helping them to prepare for their move to secondary school in the Autumn term.
Engage, Learn, Achieve: The impact of museum visits on the attainment of secondary pupils in the east of England 2006-2007
The Fitzwilliam Museum is one of five museums visited in this research carried out by the University of Leicester which looked at the impact on attainment levels of a visit by a child to a museum or art gallery. Jointly commissioned by the Hub and MLA East of England the report demonstrates that over 50% of the children in the study (over 700 pupils) experienced a rise in their marks following a visit to a museum or art gallery.
