Removal of Manuscripts from Rothschild Gallery (32)

We are currently experiencing problems with the humidity control machinery in the Rothschild Gallery, and the air has become very dry as a result. The parchment leaves of the medieval and renaissance manuscripts which are normally on display in the gallery are extremely sensitive to changes in humidity, and to prevent these fragile works of art from being damaged permanently we have removed them temporarily. We are working to repair the air-handling machinery as quickly as possible so that the manuscripts can go back on display in a safe environment. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

In addition, individual pictures and objects are sometimes sent on loan to other museums. It is also necessary from time to time to change the contents of a display or remove items for conservation. If you are planning to visit the Museum to see a particular item, please check in advance that it is on view by contacting: reception@fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk.
